Jewelry & Timepiece Repairs

Preventative Jewelry Care

Jewelry you wear regularly, especially rings, can benefit from a cleaning and inspection twice a year to prevent damage that occurs over time from normal wear and tear. In addition to cleaning and polishing, we check the overall condition of your jewelry to make sure stones are not coming loose or clasps are not bent.

Polishing vs. Cleaning

Polishing removes scratches and restores the original shine to sterling silver, gold and platinum jewelry.  Holding your piece in his hand, our jeweler carefully rotates the item, exposing its surface areas to the spinning head of our polishing machine.  Each piece is polished three times using three different polishing compounds called polishing rouge.  After every surface of the piece is polished, it is dipped in the ultrasonic to remove the polishing rouge and finally steam cleaned to give it the final sparkle.

Cleaning methods depend upon the individual piece being treated.  Most common tools used are a jeweler's steam maching, a jeweler's ultrasonic machine, and a jeweler's cloth.

Repair of Damaged Jewelry

When a piece of jewelry is damaged, it’s a good idea to get it repaired as soon as possible before more damage occurs or additional links, stones or other elements fall off and are lost. Be sure to collect any loose pieces you can, as we may be able to use them in the repair.  We can repair most antique and vintage jewelry & timepieces.  Generally, repairs can be done on-site.  Repairs on certain Swiss watches can take 4 to 6 weeks, and in some cases, longer. In some cases, we must send watches needing repair to the original manufacturer.

Items Purchased From Us: We warranty the jewelry we sell for one year, as long as -- in our sole discretion -- the item has not been exposed to unusual wear and tear. (For example, if your planning on moving your washing machine, it's a good idea to take off your engagement ring beforehand.)  We work diligently to offer only quality products; however, there is no such thing as perfection. So, if you have an issue with an item purchased in our store, please know that we will do everything we can to make it right.

Items Repaired By Us: We warranty our repairs for one year.  Please understand that just like getting your brakes replaced doesn't mean your transmission is warrantied, when an item is repaired it is someimtes because the item is very old or was of poor manufacture.  Down the road there is a chance it will need repairs in other spots.  We warranty only the work we perform, not the entire piece.  That being said, we will attempt to make you aware of any evident weaknesses in the item.

Cost of a repair depends on several factors: the level of difficulty of the repair, the cost of the parts (for example, a new gemstone versus a new clasp), and how quickly you need the repair made.  Please contact us for an estimate to repair your valuables.
